The Toasty Overview

Left the world of cubicles to start my own creative design agency. An expecting father with the best wife ever. Typically found working in the backyard with my dogs and a cigar... and possibly a pint.

Life is good.

Overwhelming responses!

Wow... so uhhh... Didn't expect that! To be honest, we figured this would generate a some traffic and people would get a kick out of it. It is after all a very old prank that has been done time after time... who'd a thunk it was hit the top story in all categories on digg.com. Hell, people are still "digging" the story as we speak!

It also made some German news publication...

This website probably errored out a few times since my bandwidth was exceeded by 209%. I've since upgraded my account.

But hands down what makes this prank even funnier are people's comments. My God, there are some fuckin' morons out there. My favorite are the people that tell me the pictures are fake and they saw the exact ones year ago. That makes me smile... Or how 'bout the tree-hugging environmentalists who just assume that I'm going to be shoving the wasted foil down the throats of baby seals rather than recycle... Or how 'bout the whack-job Army mom's that are gonna write a letter to the government explaining that I'm the reason we're still at war in Iraq... Reading through the comments is like a choos-your-own-adventure book! It's great!

Then there's the folks that KNOW exactly who we are and we're just making this all up. Ah... you moron's always make me smile... Here are some accusations:

Accusation 1) We're not designers b/c we work on PCs (they can make out the Dell docking station).
In fact we are designers that work on PCs. We have some Apples laying around but no one uses them. Designers can prefer PCs and we do... Writing HTML/CSS isn't exactly OS-dependant people.

Accusation 2) The guy in the red shirt is a known prankster.
Awe... that's sweet. The guy in the red shirt is ME you fuckin' numnuts! I posed because I figured that would make it legitimate but I guess not.

Accusation 3) It's a prank because we posted it to Digg before the poor bastard will see it.
Well, that I'll take fault on. Simply because we had no idea the magnitude of hits this was going to generate. You can thank yourselves for making it so prominent... we didn't do that - you did.

Accusation 4) We're lazy bastard that are a drain on company's time.
That one couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact we're the busiest department in our company considering we design and support for the entire company's needs. It only took a day and half people... not a week! Our boss helped us Christ's sake... Blowing off a little steam at the end of the year during slow times all the while building team moral and bonding with coworkers is GOOD thing and not a waste of time.

Accusation  5) We plagiarized the photos and story.
Considering the overwhelming about of evidence in our favor - although, if a picture of me in the cube still didn't convince you... I'm not sure what will.

So that about does it.

We're gonna call our victim Monday night and try to coordinate a breakfast meeting with our team for Tuesday morning so we all walk in together to capture his reaction. I'll be recording it with my camera and will later upload for your viewing pleasure!

Check back Tuesday night~ish (PST) for the reaction video.

My favorite is the douche who pretended to be whomever you've set out trick saying he won't be surprised anymore.

P.S. did you read all your comments on digg too? they're just as fun (if not more... because there people start getting pissy at others)

Kudos to upgrading your a/c (I'd have just hoped digg mirror got it for their sake)

What's fun is reading the google-translated German-into-English version of the news story:

"Small joke among designers

When a designer drove into holidays, its colleagues of dozens of roles of aluminum foil snatched themselves and packed its whole office into shining foil.

The American knows still nothing from his luck and after the Weihnachtsferien shining eyes will probably make.

Altogether approximately 50 square meters of aluminum foil were used, which the designers completed in one and a half days around all articles in the office of their acquaintance."

So, did you videotape his reaction? I used your blog's search to find more references to tin foil, but all it brought up were comments from this entry. I linked to this entry in my blog. Go there for a video of a great office prank, probably the best one ever.
